Thought we would be safe with this selection for a vegan based on Mediterranean style food, but there are very few options. The spre on the appetizer menu are vegan the chickpea flatbread was very good but everything else - including sal, it seems- had meat or dairy. The upside was that our server was very knowledgeable about the menu- she was able to specify the few vegan items and she offered to ask the chef about a vegan entree. The chef prepared pasta in a thin tomato sauce with peas and lima beans.

I should have just ordered more hummus. Vegan bottom line: If someone else chose the restaurant, you will not starve here - there are a couple of appetizers you can order from the menu and chef will prepare something edible.
If you have the freedom to choose, there are many, many other options in Pittsburgh with great vegan options. A group of five just had brunch at the Casbah. They seated us in the first room, when you walk in. When we first sat down it seemed ok, but as the brunch wore on it was brutally hot and terribly uncomfortable.
There must have been many complaints because they began opening windows, but it did no good. It was so hot and the service was so slow we all hoped we'd get out of there alive! Food was mediocre, but the chicken sausage was cold, not sure if it had been cooked, at all.
Maybe we should have wiped our brows on the sausage. It was my first time there and I see no reason to ever go back.
I love this place. The only thing more impressive than their delicious pan-Mediterranean food is their excellently curated wine list. Fantastic apps try the scallops! Relaxing, elegant atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable staff are icing on the cake. Atmosphere, appetizers, drinks, main dishes, desserts and service are all fabulous!
This is one of the many trendy restaurants in Pittsburgh that I will add to my list of favorites. Small menu that sometimes changes. Their mainstays: Duck and Lamb are very fine. Food ingredients are PA-sourced. It claims Mediterranean but lacks the classic flavors.
The menu tends to be heavy on pasta entrees, but none that would be associated with Southern Italy or Sicily or Sardinia. Nor Arabic nor Israeli. Yes, overall good food, but No certainly not Mediterranean. Own or manage this property? Claim your listing for free to respond to reviews, update your profile and much more. Review of Casbah.
